Matched gemstone pairs · Buying guide & FAQ

What is a rose cut sapphire?

A rose cut has a flat base and a domed top covered in triangular facets, a style used long before the modern brilliant cut. It shows broad flashes of colour rather than sparkle, and its low profile sits close to the finger, which makes it popular for vintage-style engagement rings.

Our 1930s Ceylon stones

These sapphires were cut by hand in Sri Lanka in the 1930s and have never been set. They are natural Ceylon sapphires in light to medium blue and orange, heat treated as is standard. Because they were cut by hand, facets and outlines vary slightly from stone to stone, and each listing shows the actual stone.

Bullet cuts

Bullet cuts are long, tapered step cuts from the Art Deco period, used as side stones and in drop earrings. We sell them as matched pairs.

Every stone ships the next business day from Toronto, fully tracked and insured, with free shipping in Canada and worldwide. Returns are accepted within 30 days in original condition.

Frequently asked questions

Are these real antique stones?

They are 1930s estate stones, cut by hand in the Art Deco era and never set.

Can I choose a specific rose cut?

Yes. Where a listing offers several stones, message us and we will send photos and weights of each one before you choose.

Are rose cuts durable for a ring?

Sapphire is 9 on the Mohs scale, very hard and suited to daily wear. Your jeweller will advise on a protective setting for the domed crown.
