Looking for a matched pair with real vintage character? These two natural Ceylon sapphires were hand-cut in the 1930s in the bullet cut, the long tapered baguette with a pointed end that defined Art Deco jewellery. They're a soft, luminous light blue, cooler and brighter than the deep royal blue most shops sell, with long step facets that throw clean flashes of light rather than scattered sparkle. They're made for a jewellery designer, a maker or anyone planning a one-of-a-kind pair of Art Deco earrings or a three-stone ring. This is our larger blue pair: each stone is close to 9 mm long.
- Vintage. Icy blue. Matched. Made to be remembered.
- Matched pair of natural Ceylon light blue sapphires, 2.39 ct total (1.20 + 1.19 ct)
- Bullet cut, hand-cut in the 1930s Art Deco era, about 9 mm long
- Light cornflower to icy blue
- Ideal as a matched gemstone pair for earrings or as side stones for a three-stone ring
- A matched pair of loose natural blue sapphires, sold unmounted. Both stones were cut by hand in the 1930s and chosen as a pair for their shape and colour. There is only one of this pair.
The bullet cut
The bullet cut is a long, tapered step cut with a pointed end, a classic of 1930s Art Deco design and rarely cut today. Its long step facets give sharp, directional flashes, and the slim shape adds length to drop earrings and frames a centre stone as a side stone. Old hand-cut stones like these have slightly individual facets and light wear, which is part of their charm.
Colour under different light
- Daylight: Soft cornflower blue
- Bright light: Icy blue with crisp white flashes
- Warm indoor light: Gentle lavender-blue
Design ideas
- Art Deco drop or bar earrings, pointed ends down
- Side stones for a three-stone ring, pointed ends toward a centre diamond or sapphire
- A pair of matching pendants for two people
- White gold or platinum to keep the blue cool, or yellow gold for a warmer vintage look
Perfect for
Your own Art Deco earrings or three-stone ring, side stones for a design you're making, a vintage piece of your own, or a stone for your September birthday.
