Looking for a matched pair with real vintage character? These two natural Ceylon sapphires were hand-cut in the 1930s in the bullet cut, a tapered baguette with a pointed end that was a signature of Art Deco jewelry. They're matched at 0.53 ct each, in a warm, fiery orange with golden undertones. They're made for a pair of drop or bar earrings, or as side stones in an Art Deco style ring.
- Vintage. Fiery orange. Matched. Made to be remembered.
- Matched pair of natural Ceylon orange sapphires, 1.06 ct total (0.53 ct each)
- 1930s Art Deco bullet cut, a tapered baguette gemstone pair
- Vivid orange with warm golden undertones
- Heat only, the standard accepted treatment for sapphire
- A matched pair of loose natural orange sapphires from Sri Lanka (Ceylon), sold unmounted. There is only one of this pair.
The bullet cut
The bullet cut is a long, tapered step cut with a pointed end, a classic of 1930s Art Deco design and rarely cut today. Its long step facets give sharp, directional flashes rather than scattered sparkle, and the slim shape is ideal for drops, bars and side stones.
The colour
A warm orange that shifts between amber, orange and burnt gold as the light changes. It brings real warmth to yellow and rose gold, and pops against white gold.
Setting them
- About 6 × 3.6 mm each, with a shallow 2 mm depth that sits low
- Suited to bezel, channel or tension settings that follow the tapered outline
- Matched for a balanced pair of earrings, or as side stones flanking a centre stone
Birthstone meaning
Sapphire is the birthstone for September and the traditional gemstone for 5th and 45th wedding anniversaries.
Perfect for
A pair of drop or bar earrings, an Art Deco style ring or side stones, for designers and makers, and a natural choice for a September birthstone.
