Understanding jardin

"Jardin" is French for garden, the traditional name for the natural inclusions inside an emerald. In emeralds, the jardin isn't seen as a flaw but as a signature of natural origin. Colombian emeralds form under specific geological conditions that create characteristic inclusions, such as three-phase inclusions containing liquid, gas and solid crystals, which gemologists can identify. A synthetic or glass-filled stone wouldn't show this natural jardin.
