Looking for something truly exceptional? This stone brings together three strengths at this price. It's a large pear cut in a rich, deeply saturated purple. It's loupe clean. And its 22.2 × 15.7 mm face commands attention in any setting or display. A knowledgeable buyer will recognise it on sight as a stone worth having.
- Natural. Untreated. One of a kind. Made to be remembered.

- Deep velvety purple, rich, fully saturated and consistent across the face
- Loupe clean, with no inclusions visible under 10x magnification
- Completely untreated, with no heat and no enhancement
- A large collector gemstone and a February birthstone
- A single loose natural amethyst, sold unmounted. There is only one of this stone.
The colour
Amethyst ranges from pale lavender to near-black grape purple. The most desirable grade sits in the deep-to-very-deep range: fully saturated and strongly purple, without shifting toward red or blue at the edges, and transparent enough to transmit light. This stone sits at the premium end of that range. Its velvety quality means the colour looks three-dimensional instead of flat, with a depth that changes as the stone moves. Colour zoning, where uneven bands of colour show across the face, is one of the most common flaws in large amethyst. This stone shows consistent saturation across the whole face.
Why loupe clean matters
Commercial amethyst is usually graded "eye clean," which means inclusions aren't visible to the naked eye but may show under magnification. Loupe clean is a higher grade, with nothing visible under 10x magnification. This stone combines loupe-clean clarity with deeply saturated colour at 22 carats.
The pear cut
The pear cut combines a rounded base with a pointed tip, which makes it both directional and elegant. As a pendant, the tip creates visual length on the neckline. As a ring, it looks larger face-up than a round or cushion cut of the same weight. The faceting is well executed. The pavilion facets meet cleanly at the culet, and the crown spreads light evenly with no windowing or dark patches.
Who this stone is for
Collectors of large faceted gemstones. Designers and goldsmiths creating a statement pendant, where yellow gold intensifies the purple and rose gold adds a complementary warmth. Ring buyers who want something unusual in a solitaire or halo setting. And anyone born in February, since amethyst is the February birthstone. A loose stone lets you choose your own setting, so the finished piece is entirely yours.
Size and setting reference
At 22.2 × 15.7 mm, this stone needs a setting made for a large pear center stone. A 22 × 16 mm pear setting is available from fine jeweler suppliers. The 10.7 mm depth needs enough basket depth to hold the stone securely, so confirm the dimensions with your jeweler before choosing a setting.
A gemstone for him: the men's signet ring
At Roho Jewels, we believe men deserve beautiful gemstones too. A natural deep purple amethyst set into a signet ring is a bold, personal alternative to a plain metal signet: one-of-a-kind, full of character, and a ring he'll wear for decades and one day pass down.
- Signet face: at 22.2 × 15.7 mm, this stone is larger than a typical men's signet face, so we recommend it for a statement pendant or a large cocktail ring
- Setting: flush (gypsy), bezel or half-bezel keeps it low and smooth, with no claws to catch on sleeves or gloves
- Depth: the stone is 10.7 mm deep, so ask your jeweler for a signet head at least 11.7 mm deep
- Metal: rich in yellow gold, sharp in white gold or platinum, rugged in oxidised sterling silver
- Wear: Mohs 7. A protective bezel makes it a striking statement signet for evenings and special occasions
- Made for: a ring he'll wear every day, or to mark a wedding, a graduation or a milestone birthday
Transparency you can trust
This stone is natural, untreated and loupe clean, and the colour in the photos is accurate.
Perfect for
A collector's stone, a statement pendant or cocktail ring of your own design, an heirloom piece or a men's signet: a natural choice for a February birthstone or an anniversary you're marking.
