Looking for something truly rare? A Colombian emerald with minor to no oil. In the emerald market, those words carry enormous weight. The vast majority of Colombian emeralds on the market have been oiled, a standard practice that fills surface-reaching fractures with cedar oil or resin to improve apparent clarity. This emerald has received at most a trace of oil. The colour, the transparency and the natural jardin are essentially the work of the earth. It's what serious emerald buyers look for, and it's hard to find in natural Colombian material at any weight.
- Natural. Minor to no oil. Vivid. Made to be remembered.
- Checked in-house by Roho Jewels; no independent lab report. Comes with our genuine guarantee and the Roho Jewels lifetime guarantee.
- Colombian origin, the world benchmark for emerald quality
- Minor to no oil, one of the most sought-after categories in the emerald market
- 1.82 carats, a substantial 9.9 × 7.9 mm oval for a ring center stone
- Vivid, saturated green, never pale or washed out
- Independent lab testing can be arranged on request
- A loose natural emerald from Colombia, sold unmounted. Minor to no oil, with no resin and no other enhancement. There is only one of this stone.
Understanding jardin
"Jardin" is French for garden, the traditional name for the natural inclusions inside an emerald. In emeralds, the jardin isn't seen as a flaw but as a signature of natural origin. Colombian emeralds form under specific geological conditions that create characteristic inclusions, such as three-phase inclusions containing liquid, gas and solid crystals, which gemologists can identify. A synthetic or glass-filled stone wouldn't show this natural jardin.
Why Colombia
Colombia is famous for producing the world's most prized emeralds, from legendary mining regions such as Muzo, Chivor and Coscuez. Colombian emeralds are known for their warm, vivid green, widely considered the global standard for fine emerald colour.
For the engagement ring buyer
A vivid green oval makes a striking alternative engagement ring, beautiful in yellow gold, rose gold or platinum. It also suits a pendant or a cocktail ring.
A gemstone for him: the men's signet ring
At Roho Jewels, we believe men deserve beautiful gemstones too. A natural Colombian emerald set into a signet ring is a bold, personal alternative to a plain metal signet: one-of-a-kind, full of character, and a ring he'll wear for decades and one day pass down.
- Signet face: at 9.9 × 7.9 mm, this stone suits a signet face of about 13–16 mm (most men choose a face of about 15–18 mm), great on the ring or middle finger
- Setting: flush (gypsy), bezel or half-bezel keeps it low and smooth, with no claws to catch on sleeves or gloves
- Depth: the stone is 4 mm deep, so ask your jeweler for a signet head at least 5 mm deep
- Metal: rich in yellow gold, sharp in white gold or platinum, rugged in oxidised sterling silver
- Wear: Mohs 7.5–8. A flush or bezel setting protects the edges, making it ideal for a dress signet or careful everyday wear
- Made for: a ring he'll wear every day, or to mark a wedding, a graduation or a milestone birthday
Birthstone meaning
Emerald is the birthstone for May and has long been a symbol of love, renewal and loyalty.
Perfect for
An engagement ring, a pendant or a cocktail ring of your own design, a collector's stone or a men's signet: a natural choice for a May birthstone or a 20th or 35th anniversary.
