Looking for something truly rare? This completely untreated Ceylon blue sapphire has a clear, bright, crystal light blue colour with exceptional transparency. It isn't the deep inky royal blue of a classic Ceylon stone, and it isn't the pale washed-out blue of a low-grade one. It sits in the sought-after middle ground jewelers call "crystal blue." It's ideal for a one-of-a-kind engagement ring, a statement piece, or a Jyotish Neelam.
- Natural. Untreated. Rare. Made to be remembered.
- Checked in-house by Roho Jewels; no independent lab report. Comes with our genuine guarantee and the Roho Jewels lifetime guarantee.
- No heat and no enhancement, so this colour is entirely natural
- Ceylon origin, one of the world's most prestigious sources for blue sapphire
- A 12.1 × 9.5 mm face, with a similar footprint on the finger to a large oval diamond
- High transparency, with exceptional light return and brilliance for a natural sapphire
- 6.83 carats at this colour grade is an unusual find in untreated material
- A loose natural blue sapphire from Sri Lanka (Ceylon), sold unmounted: a Jyotish Saturn stone (Neelam) and an untreated sapphire for an engagement ring
The colour
Most blue sapphires on the market are either deeply saturated (dark royal or cornflower blue) or pale and washed out. Crystal light blue occupies a specific, sought-after range that is hard to find in natural, untreated material. In this range, the stone transmits light instead of absorbing it, which gives it a luminous, almost glowing quality face-up. It looks bright and alive in daylight and intensifies under artificial light.
For the engagement ring buyer
This stone is for the couple who wants something different, a non-diamond engagement ring with a colour that is striking without being heavy or dark. The crystal light blue tone is romantic and modern, works beautifully with diamond accents, and photographs exceptionally well. It's ideal for a bezel, halo or three-stone design in platinum, 18K white gold or rose gold.
For the Jyotish & Vedic astrology buyer
In Vedic astrology, blue sapphire is Neelam, the gemstone of Saturn (Shani) and one of the Navaratna stones. It's traditionally worn to strengthen Saturn in the birth chart and is associated with discipline, focus, career and karmic resolution. This stone meets the traditional requirements for Neelam: natural and earth-mined, untreated with no heat, of Ceylon origin, clean and bright in colour, and a substantial 6.83 ct weight. Note: Saturn stones are traditionally worn only after a proper astrological consultation. Please consult a qualified Jyotish practitioner before wearing.
A gemstone for him: the men's signet ring
At Roho Jewels, we believe men deserve beautiful gemstones too. A natural unheated Ceylon sapphire set into a signet ring is a bold, personal alternative to a plain metal signet: one-of-a-kind, full of character, and a ring he'll wear for decades and one day pass down.
- Signet face: at 12.1 × 9.5 mm, this stone suits a signet face of about 16–19 mm (most men choose a face of about 15–18 mm), great on the ring or middle finger
- Setting: flush (gypsy), bezel or half-bezel keeps it low and smooth, with no claws to catch on sleeves or gloves
- Depth: the stone is 5.3 mm deep, so ask your jeweler for a signet head at least 6.3 mm deep
- Metal: rich in yellow gold, sharp in white gold or platinum, rugged in oxidised sterling silver
- Wear: Mohs 9, second only to diamond, so it is tough enough for a ring worn every day
- Made for: a ring he'll wear every day, or to mark a wedding, a graduation or a milestone birthday
Birthstone meaning
Sapphire is the birthstone for September and has long been a symbol of wisdom, loyalty and lasting love.
Perfect for
An engagement ring or statement ring of your own design, a Jyotish Neelam, a collector's stone, an heirloom piece or a men's signet: a natural choice for a September birthstone or an anniversary you're marking.
