Looking for big blue cabochons for your next design? This is a pair of Sri Lankan blue sapphire cabochons, nearly 4 carats each, with a high dome and a deep royal blue colour. They're made for jewelry makers and anyone who wants bold sapphire earrings, a statement ring or a pendant on an accessible budget. Please read the treatment note below: these stones are glass filled, and the price reflects that.
- Bold. Royal blue. Honestly described. Made to be remembered.
- Pair of Ceylon (Sri Lanka) blue sapphire cabochons, 7.90 ct total (approx. 3.95 ct each)
- High-dome oval cabochons, 9 × 7 mm each
- Deep royal blue colour with natural silk
- Glass filled (fracture filling), priced accordingly and honestly disclosed
- Made for earrings, rings, pendants and jewelry making
- A pair of loose blue sapphire cabochons, sold unmounted. There is only one of this pair.
Treatment disclosure, please read
These sapphires are glass filled (also called lead-glass filled or fracture filled). Natural fractures in the stone have been filled with glass to improve transparency and colour. This is a common treatment for affordable sapphire, and it's the reason these large stones are priced far below heated or untreated sapphires. Glass-filled stones need gentle care (see Care below).
Why a cabochon
A smooth, domed cabochon shows colour rather than sparkle. Light pools inside the dome, giving a deep "liquid blue" look, and the natural silk adds a soft glow.
Design ideas
- Statement drop or stud earrings, using one stone each
- A bold cocktail ring or a men's cabochon ring
- Pendants and focal pieces
- Bezel or prong settings in silver or gold
Perfect for
Jewelry Makers · Cabochon Earrings · Statement Rings · Pendants · Men's Rings · Designers
