Looking for a certified sapphire with that soft cornflower blue? This natural Sri Lankan sapphire has the velvety, medium-blue colour buyers call cornflower, and it comes with an AGL (Thailand) report confirming it as natural, heat only. Its high dome and mixed cut, a brilliant crown over a step-cut pavilion, give it sparkle on top and depth below. At just over a carat, it's a beautiful centre stone for an engagement ring or a small, refined signet.

  • Natural. Cornflower blue. AGL certified. Made to be remembered.
  • Natural Ceylon (Sri Lanka) blue sapphire, 1.09 ct, high dome cushion-oval
  • Soft, velvety cornflower blue
  • AGL (Thailand) report included, confirming natural, heat only (the certificate in the photos is an example)
  • Mixed cut: brilliant crown for sparkle, step-cut pavilion for depth
  • A loose natural blue sapphire from Sri Lanka (Ceylon), sold unmounted. There is only one of this stone.

The colour

"Cornflower blue" is a trade name for a soft, medium blue with a velvety look, the shade many people picture when they think of a classic Ceylon sapphire. The high dome concentrates the colour, so the stone looks richer face-up than its size suggests.

The cut

A mixed cut combines a brilliant-cut crown, for sparkle, with a step-cut pavilion, for depth and colour. It's common in fine Sri Lankan sapphires, where cutters work to keep as much colour as possible.

For the engagement ring buyer

  • Just over 1 carat, a classic solitaire size
  • About 6 × 5 mm, so it fits standard 6 × 5 mm oval or cushion settings (ask your jeweler to check the depth, as the dome is 4.15 mm)
  • Beautiful in a halo, a bezel or a simple four-prong solitaire
  • Mohs 9 hardness, made for everyday wear

A gemstone for him: the men's signet ring

At Roho Jewels, we believe men deserve beautiful gemstones too. A natural cornflower blue sapphire set into a signet ring is a bold, personal alternative to a plain metal signet: one-of-a-kind, full of character, and a ring he'll wear for decades and one day pass down.

  • Signet face: at 5.86 × 4.92 mm, this stone suits a signet face of about 9–12 mm, a classic small signet or pinky ring
  • Setting: flush (gypsy), bezel or half-bezel keeps it low and smooth, with no claws to catch on sleeves or gloves
  • Depth: the stone is 4.15 mm deep, so ask your jeweler for a signet head at least 5.2 mm deep
  • Metal: rich in yellow gold, sharp in white gold or platinum, rugged in oxidised sterling silver
  • Wear: Mohs 9, second only to diamond, so it is tough enough for a ring worn every day
  • Perfect for: everyday wear, a wedding day, a graduation, a milestone birthday, or simply a signet he chooses for himself

Birthstone meaning

Sapphire is the birthstone for September and the traditional gemstone for 5th and 45th wedding anniversaries, long a symbol of loyalty, wisdom and sincerity.

Perfect for

A classic centre stone for your own engagement ring, or a small, refined signet. And a natural choice if September is your birth month or you're marking a 5th or 45th anniversary.
