Dreaming of an emerald that's soft, fresh and completely natural? Not every emerald has to be deep forest green. This natural Colombian emerald has a cool, bluish mint green, the fresh, airy shade that's perfect for a minimalist engagement ring or a dainty solitaire. Best of all, it has minor to no oil: at most a trace of oil, with no resin and nothing else added. What you see is essentially what came out of the ground in Colombia. At just under a carat, it has real presence on the hand while staying delicate and modern.

  • Natural. Minor to no oil. Mint green. Made to be remembered.
  • Checked in-house by Roho Jewels; no independent lab report. Comes with our genuine guarantee and the Roho Jewels lifetime guarantee.
  • Natural Colombian emerald, 0.995 ct, hand-faceted oval
  • Minor to no oil: at most a trace of oil, with no resin and nothing else added
  • Cool, bluish mint green
  • 7.0 × 5.3 mm, made to sit in a standard 7 × 5 mm oval setting with the prongs adjusted slightly
  • A loose natural emerald from Colombia, sold unmounted. There is only one of this stone.

The colour

Emerald dealers describe Colombian emeralds with a blue modifier as "bluish green", and the cool, slightly blue tone is often called "Chivor green" after the Colombian mine famous for it. This stone is a lighter version of that cool green: think fresh mint or sea glass rather than deep forest green. It looks especially pretty in white gold or platinum, and soft and warm in yellow or rose gold.

Why "minor to no oil" matters

Oiling is the standard, accepted treatment for emerald, and it's used on almost every stone sold. An emerald with minor to no oil has little or nothing added, so there's little to wear away or re-treat over time. The natural inclusions you can see in the photos are part of what makes it genuine: they're the emerald's "jardin", its natural fingerprint.

For the engagement ring buyer

  • Just under 1 carat, a classic solitaire size
  • 7.0 × 5.3 mm. It sits in a standard 7 × 5 mm oval setting: your jeweler simply opens the prongs slightly for the extra 0.3 mm
  • Perfect for a minimalist solitaire, a bezel, a halo or an east-west setting
  • A lighter emerald like this looks fresh and modern, and pairs beautifully with diamonds
  • Emerald is softer than sapphire, so a protective bezel or a halo is a good choice for everyday wear

A gemstone for him: the men's signet ring

At Roho Jewels, we believe men deserve beautiful gemstones too. A natural Colombian emerald set into a signet ring is a bold, personal alternative to a plain metal signet: one-of-a-kind, full of character, and a ring he'll wear for decades and one day pass down.

  • Signet face: at 7 × 5.3 mm, this stone suits a signet face of about 10–13 mm, a classic small signet or pinky ring
  • Setting: flush (gypsy), bezel or half-bezel keeps it low and smooth, with no claws to catch on sleeves or gloves
  • Depth: the stone is 4.7 mm deep, so ask your jeweler for a signet head at least 5.7 mm deep
  • Metal: rich in yellow gold, sharp in white gold or platinum, rugged in oxidised sterling silver
  • Wear: Mohs 7.5–8. A flush or bezel setting protects the edges, making it ideal for a dress signet or careful everyday wear
  • Perfect for: everyday wear, a wedding day, a graduation, a milestone birthday, or simply a signet he chooses for himself

Birthstone meaning

Emerald is the birthstone for May and the traditional gemstone for 20th and 35th wedding anniversaries, long a symbol of love, renewal and loyalty.

Perfect for

A centre stone for your own minimalist engagement ring or a dainty solitaire, a pendant, or a men's signet. And a natural choice if May is your birth month or you're marking a 20th or 35th anniversary.

  • I absolutely love this 1930s sapphire rose cut from Roho Jewels! The sapphire is even more lovely than I imagined, and I can’t wait to make something with it. Leander was super prompt and communicative, responding to any questions that I had quickly and shipping the stone out right after I purchased it. I can’t recommend his shop enough - thank you so much, Leander!
