Why "minor to no oil" matters

Oiling is the standard, accepted treatment for emerald, and it's used on almost every stone sold. An emerald with minor to no oil shows close to its true clarity and colour, with little or nothing to wear away over time.

Long, parallel step facets and cut corners were designed for this gemstone. Instead of scattered sparkle, the colour pools in the stone and flashes in calm, geometric planes. At 2.5 mm deep, it sits low and looks generous face-up for its weight.
